Elizabeth’s Story

I grew up in South Carolina riding horses. I’ve worked various jobs in government, nonprofits, and start-ups. I’ve lived in Boulder, Colorado; Washington, DC; Bloomington, Indiana; New York City; Chicago, IL; and finally here I am, a Michigander.

In 2018 my best friend died from cancer. Six months later I found myself depressed, stuck, and lacking any life force. I knew I was really not well. I quit my job working at a telepsychiatry start up company in Chicago and with the incredible support of my husband, I took a break. I started working at a floral shop. A few months later I found myself in a field with free roaming horses and I experienced a powerful invitation to come home to myself. I’d quit riding when I was 16 and hadn’t really been around horses much since then. I started crying, feeling grief, the disappointment, and the stuckness; everything that my body was holding but not expressing. I remembered how powerful being with horses is. I started volunteering at a traditional horse therapy barn and found my way to the mastery program at The Reflective Horse®. I learned to facilitate Equine Guided Empowerment® and Somatic Reprograming®.

I finally convinced my husband that we could create a life in the country during the covid era, and we moved to Buchanan, Michigan in 2021. We live on 54 acres with our two dogs, three barn cats, three horses and one burro. We are slowly, year by year, co-creating with the land here. We adore southwest Michigan and are thrilled to call it our home.
