Herd Healings

In the last six months the horses have invited me into a deep space of connection. It began with a few injuries over the winter which led to an equine massage therapist coming here for some sessions with the horses. Then this summer, after feeding the horses their supplement in the barn each afternoon, I began doing some of these simple massage, touch, and movement exercises. Then I began laying my hands on them as I felt called, feeling their relaxation as they slowly released tension. Naturally I also relaxed into this space, and found it so nourishing, so simple, so open feeling.

The horses started to really like this routine and so did I. In the downstairs of our 100+ year old barn, where I have a few stalls and keep all the horse stuff, the horses would hang out in the barn aisle and await their turn. The cool of this lower level of the barn built into the earth, the absence of flies, and the shade made it a little haven for us this summer.

Then in August one of my horses started offering healings. It began when I had two dear friends visiting; they wanted to hang out with the horses as they napped in the shed. Two went out to graze and the two remaining horses continued resting, and we shared this silent soft space together, two horses and three humans. Then Levi approached my friend Adele and began breathing onto her right wrist. He continued like this, resting, breathing, for five minutes or so. Then Adele said, “you know, I have a very old injury in this wrist. He’s giving me a healing.” And sure enough, Adele can now lay her wrist flat on the ground, something she hasn’t been able to do in decades.

Since then there have been several stories people have spontaneously shared with me about how Levi and the herd have offered healings. My mind of course questions these, afraid that if I share about it here then it will superstitiously negate its power, or it will lead to disappointment if someone visits the herd and doesn’t experience a miracle. Some of my belief systems are coming up to be seen!

However, it has led me into dreaming about creating a space for individuals to experience and play with me as we collectively create a healing field with the horses. And so I have reworked my session offerings; there is now a “Herd Healing” session available to an individual, an hour in length, which we’ll be able to do through the winter as we get cozy in the downstairs of the barn.

If you are interested in exploring this, please reach out to me or sign up! We’d love to play with you as we co-create a healing field with horses and humans, and offer nourishment and care to each other in a space with no expectations, heart-openness, and creativity.
